WINTER ACTIVITIES

Some regions may hibernate for the winter, but when winter hits Hope, Cascades and Canyons the fun has just begun! Check out the activities in these locations:

COQUIHALLA SUMMIT RECREATION AREA: blanketed by heavy snow, this area provides endless opportunities for winter sport. Snowmobiling, snowshoeing, ice climbing, and back country skiing are popular pursuits in this scenic, snowy haven. Winter camping is allowed in this region, and traditionally occurs at Falls Lake, but please be aware there are no facilities available and there are extreme and changing weather conditions in this area. Before you head out, check out the BC Parks Webpage on this area. This page provides valuable information of the Coquihalla Summit area, including maps of avalanche zones to avoid, so please read about and familiarize yourself with the area before you go.

MANNING PROVINCIAL PARK: You’ll find a diverse range of winter activities throughout this massive (206,755 acre) park. Let’s start with Manning Park Resort: Alpine skiing & snowboarding, Nordic skiing, the Polar Coaster Tube Park, ice skating, and snow shoeing make this an ultimate winter destination. You can also book a cabin or room and turn your stay-cation into a multi-day getaway. You will find opportunities for cross country skiing and snowshoeing, as well as winter camping in other areas of the park as well. Winter camping is permitted in Lone Duck I and Lone Duck II campgrounds, in the Cambie Creek campground, in the back-country (get your permit here), and self-contained units can winter camp in the Lightning Lake day-use parking lot. HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES

Holiday celebrations will be different this year, but we are hoping you’ll join us for some safe, socially distanced merriment! These holiday activities will be taking place in Hope:

SANTA SLEIGH RIDE FOOD DRIVE: Due to safety concerns surrounding Covid-19, Hope Towing’s Annual Santa Ride has been re-imagined into the Hope Towing Christmas Convoy! On December 12, Hope Towing will be doing a driving tour throughout Hope to spread cheer! Earlier in the day from 12 – 2 Hope Towing will be on sight at the Hope Visitor Centre to collect food bank donations. There’s no better way to get into the Christmas spirit than by helping out your neighbours in need.

LIGHTS TOUR: New this year: a Christmas Lights Challenge to bring some glimmer and glow to your community! If three or more homes on the same street collaborate to decorate their homes, they can enter as a team. Register by December 5th and decorate by December 11th. Voting begins on December 12th and runs through to December 27th. An official driving tour map and online voting instructions will be announced between December 5th and 11th. PASSPORT TO CHRISTMAS: Shop local and win! Collect stamps in your passport every time you make purchases at participating businesses. Every completed passport is an entry for a chance to win a Visa Gift Card in the following amounts: 1st prize: $500, 2nd: $300, 3rd: $200, 4th & 5th: $100. Many local businesses will also be offering in-store draws during the holiday season.
