HISTORY
ALEXANDRA BRIDGE – CLOSED UNTIL SEPTEMBER 2022
Spuzzum, BC
Walk where Cariboo Wagon Road, and later the Cariboo Highway, once was on the Alexandra Bridge! The original Alexandra Bridge was built in 1868 as part of the Cariboo Wagon Road until high waters in the Fraser River washed it out. It wasn’t until the dawn of the automotive era that a new bridge was built, back in 1926, as part of the Cariboo Highway. Still standing strong today, the Alexandra Bridge is a great place to get a close view of the mighty Fraser!
YALE HISTORIC SITE
31187 Douglas Street, Yale
Take a trip 200 years into the past and live like a gold prospector at the Yale Historic Site. Here you can wander through the seemingly endless artifacts throughout the museum and then head outside to gold pan, explore the city of canvas tents (housing re-creations of a saloon, general store, and more), or visit one of the oldest churches in British Columbia, St. John the Divine.
LILLOOET MUSEUM
790 Main Street, Lillooet
Doubling as the Visitor Centre, you can come to the Lillooet Museum to learn everything you need to know about Lillooet’s past and present. The museum houses artifacts from several gold rushes that occurred in Lillooet’s vicinity as well as household items and photos from the region’s families.
THE OLD BRIDGE
Old Bridge, Lillooet
Constructed over 100 years ago, the Lillooet Suspension Bridge is a perfect spot to stop for a quick road-trip break. Here you will find comfortable benches and several interpretative signs recounting the history of the area. By searching carefully, you may also spot the bat houses under the bridge that house eight different species of bats!
FRANCIS HARRINGTON PARK
Boston Bar Station Road and Trans-Canada Highway, Boston Bar
Come to Boston Bar to see the Aerial Ferry that carried millions over the mighty Fraser River. This spectacle of technology ran from 1940 to 1986 and could carry a car and its passengers with ease between Boston Bar and North Bend. Still on display today, you can find the Aerial Ferry and several interpretative signs surrounding it on the Trans Canada Highway that runs through Boston Bar.
