HBC Trail
This 166 year old trail crosses the Cascade Mountains from Hope to Otter Lake (Tulameen). The trail offers stunning scenery and a rich history of use by First Nations and European fur traders. This fur ‘brigade trail’ is the reason Fort Hope was built by the Hudson’s Bay Company (HBC) in 1848. You can access the trail via four different Forest Service Roads (FSRs): Peers Creek, Sowaqua Creek, Jacobson Lake, and Lodestone Lake. This 75km trail re-opened in 2015 is is set to become one of the premiere multi-day hikes in British Columbia. Comparable is distance to the West Coast Trail, but offering entirely different scenery, challenges, and history, the HBC Trail should be on your bucket list. Hike the entire trail or do day-trips from any of the FSR trailheads. Campsites with tent pads, pit toilets, and food caches are along the trail.
