The Fraser Canyon is where the landscape becomes bigger and more dramatic. Follow the Fraser River through steep canyon walls, historic communities and mountain viewpoints, with opportunities for rafting, fishing and glamping along the way.
The Fraser Canyon is where the Fraser River cuts through some of the most dramatic scenery in southern British Columbia. Travelling Highway 1 through the canyon takes you past steep mountain walls, rushing water, historic bridges and small communities that have been connected to the river for generations.
There is plenty to explore beyond the highway. Stop in Yale to step into the region's Gold Rush history, visit Alexandra Bridge Provincial Park, or continue north toward Boston Bar and North Bend. The Gold Rush Trail also connects several of these communities, including Hope, Yale, Alexandra Bridge and Boston Bar.
For outdoor travellers, the canyon offers hiking, fishing, camping, wildlife viewing and opportunities to experience the Fraser River up close. Hell's Gate is another well-known Fraser Canyon attraction, where the river is forced through a dramatically narrow section of the canyon.
The Fraser Canyon is best experienced at a slower pace. Leave some extra time in your itinerary to pull over, explore a community, walk a historic site or simply take in the mountains and river around you.
