Coquihalla Summit Recreation Area

Just north of Hope along Highway 5, the Coquihalla Summit Recreation Area is where the highway gives way to high-elevation mountain scenery. The area protects a transition zone between coastal and southern Interior environments, creating a landscape with its own distinct mix of forests, lakes and mountain terrain.

For a shorter outing, stop at Falls Lake and walk the 1.5-kilometre trail to enjoy the lake and surrounding mountain scenery. Falls Lake also offers fishing for rainbow trout with the appropriate B.C. fishing licence.

More experienced hikers can use the area as a starting point for longer mountain adventures, but the terrain can be challenging, and conditions can change quickly. Plan carefully, check conditions before heading out and make sure your trip matches your experience level.

For travellers simply passing through, the summit is also a great place to pause, stretch your legs and take in the landscape before continuing along the Coquihalla Highway.
