Explore Yale Historic Site & Visitor Centre to immerse yourself in the heritage of the region. Visit to step back in time and discover the historic buildings and artifacts that showcase the rich history of Hope Cascades and Canyons.

Christ Church (Anglican) is the oldest church in the lower mainland of British Columbia and continues to hold regular church services. It is officially a National Historic Site of Canada. The church was founded by Rev. Alexander St. David Francis Pringle in 1861. Two years earlier, he founded the first library in the lower mainland. The Church is a beautifully crafted, Gothic Revival style structure located at 680 Fraser Street. The building is composed of nave and chancel sections with a side entrance porch covered by a gable roof.

Located just west of Yale, on the Trans Canada Highway, the cemetery was established in 1858. The original cemetery was located next to Yale Creek but the discovery of gold nearby lead the miners to relocate the four original graves to their present location in order to extract gold from the area. A variety of unique and interesting headstones date from 1863 right up to present day.

Alexandra Bridge Provincial Park is a small park centred around the site of the original Cariboo Wagon Road bridge over the Fraser River. The park was established in 1984. It provides both a rest stop and picnic facilities for travellers. This site has been a natural stop-over and crossing of the Fraser River since the area was first populated. Because of its small size there are limited recreational opportunities within this park. You can access the historic bridge from a trail through the day-use area.

Nestled within the stunning landscape of Coquihalla Canyon Provincial Park and typically open from April 1 to October 31, the Othello Tunnels showcase a striking blend of natural landscapes and human ingenuity. Carved in the early 20th century to link the Kootenay Region with British Columbia’s coast, these granite passageways, named after Shakespearean characters by engineer Andrew McCullough, offer a unique blend of history and natural beauty. Visitors are invited to traverse the scenic 3.5km round-trip journey, where dramatic canyon and cave views unfold at each step. A flashlight is a must-have to navigate the dimly-lit tunnels, ensuring a safe passage through this historic route. Pet lovers will be delighted to know their furry companions can join them on their adventure, provided they remain on a leash. Cyclists, too, can enjoy the surroundings, but please walk your bikes through the tunnels, preserving the serene and safe atmosphere for all. The tunnels also hold a place in cinematic history as a location for the iconic film “Rambo: First Blood,” adding an element of Hollywood allure to their rugged charm.#ExploreHCC – Capture your ‘tunnel vision’ at Coquihalla Canyon Provincial Park and share it with us!
