Kawkawa Lake in Hope, BC, is a picturesque destination for outdoor enthusiasts. With opportunities for swimming, fishing, and hiking, visitors can immerse themselves in the tranquility of the surrounding mountains and enjoy a peaceful retreat by the water.

The Coquihalla Canyon Provincial Park is home to an engineering marvel, The Othello Tunnels. A straight line of railway tunnels were built through the solid granite cliffs of the Coquihalla Gorge in the early 20th century, but due to washouts and rock slides, the route was closed in 1959. Enjoy walking along the abandoned tunnels and bridges. Flashlights are strongly recommended for anyone walking or cycling through the Tunnels. Some are long and dark, and the gravel surface underfoot may be uneven due to erosion caused by dripping water. Features: Campground, picnic tables, fishing, hiking, cycling and toilets. Dogs on leash are allowed. Directions Traveling East on Highway #1, take exit 170 and turn left at the stop light at end of exit ramp. Turn right at Old Hope-Princeton Highway junction (stop light). Turn left at 6 Ave, then right on Kawkawa Lake Rd and slight left to stay on Kawkawa Lake Rd. Take second right on Othello Rd. and take first right to stay on Othello Rd. You will see parking area ahead. The tunnels are open dawn to dusk for the summer season.

This trail climbs a short distance up the mountain through old-growth forest. Extremely well maintained and a downhill nirvana. Some features include drops, jumps, gaps and bridges. Every feature is marked with some flags so you are not surprised by them and the view from Dog Mountain is surreal. Round trip: 3kmTrailhead: UTM WGS84 10U 0611244 e 5471785 n lat/long: N 49°23.315’ W 121°28.028’Head north on Water St. Follow Hwy #1 north. Continue over the Fraser River Bridge. After the second bridge, turn west on Hwy #7 towards Agassiz. Travel about 500 meters to the weigh scales and park at the far end. Situated in the scenic Skagit Valley, Silver Lake Provincial Park is a small, largely undeveloped lakefront area. Visitors can enjoy fishing, picnicking and boating (10hp motor limit) against a spectacular mountain backdrop or take pleasure in a rustic camping experience.

One of the main attractions of the park is the spawning and rearing channels for coho, pink and chum salmon. Beginning in September in even numbered years (2016, 2018, 2020, etc.), and October in odd numbered years (2015, 2017, 2019 etc.), these salmon return to spawn in the park’s spawning channels, which provides excellent viewing opportunities.Photo by @hoser_elite on Instagram

Hike to the top using the Gorilla climbing trail. Then rip down the mountain all the way to Kawkwa Lake. Trail is fairly new with jump and drops and some steep and technical areas. At a point branch off and try and newly added Macho Mango. Two different routes on one great mountain. Very scenic and green throughout the hole trail. Know your limits as a rider and if unclear on the feature ahead. Check it before you wreck it. Bike Rentals: Free delivery is offered throughout the Hope area, or if you prefer, you can pick up. Hope Bike &amp; Kayak Rentals is on the doorstep of incredible trails that connect you to a scenic ride into Hope’s downtown through both Thacker Marsh and the Hope Bike Park. Kayaks &amp; Paddle Boards: Free delivery is available to Kawkawa Lake and Schkam Lake (Lake of the Woods). With rentals of a half-day or more, free delivery is also available to Silver Lake. Customers can also reserve gear to pick up and take to other lakes. Special pricing for long term rentals. Open 9am – 9pm or by appointment year-round!
