First Blood Trail

Get ready—an exhilarating new chapter in mountain biking has launched in Hope, BC with the highly anticipated First Blood Trail.

This bold, black diamond trail is the first major build in the developing Hope Mountain Trail Network and is already turning heads. Designed for advanced riders and built entirely by hand, First Blood delivers a raw, authentic riding experience that pairs big terrain with bold technical features.

NEW: Shuttle Service Available! Skip the climb and maximize your ride time. Contact Rob at 604-516-9115 (Call/WhatsApp) for 7-days-a-week service starting from $20 for the 30-minute ride to the trailhead.

Crafted by the expert team at First Journey Trails, led by veteran trail builder Thomas Schoen, and developed in partnership with the Fraser Valley Mountain Bikers Association, this 5 km-long descent is steep, fast, and packed with features: rock slabs, boulders, exposed sections, hand-built ladders, and bridges that nod to classic freeride roots.

Set against Hope’s stunning backdrop of rugged mountains and dense forest, First Blood offers more than just a ride—it’s an unforgettable adventure. Inspired by the legendary 1982 Rambo film shot in the area, the trail brings an old-school vibe to a new-school destination.

Though rated black diamond, skilled intermediate riders with the right gear and caution can also take on the challenge. The trail stands out for its blend of natural terrain and minimal machine intervention, creating a distinct, soulful ride that sets Hope apart from other biking hubs.

Environmental sustainability and Indigenous collaboration were prioritized throughout the build. Schoen’s crew used innovative, low-impact techniques such as rock splitting to reduce erosion and preserve the natural landscape. His background in tourism and Indigenous engagement helped guide a thoughtful and respectful approach to trail development.

As Schoen puts it, First Blood is just the beginning. With strong community support and a clear vision for the future, this trail marks the first step in establishing Hope as a must-ride destination for mountain bikers across BC and beyond.

After a big day on the trail, kick back and recharge in one of Hope’s cozy stays. From rustic cabins to bike-friendly B&Bs and modern hotels, you’ll find the perfect basecamp for your riding adventure. Explore local accommodations here.

Trail Parking

Just past the paved portion of the Mt. Hope Forest Service Road, visitors will come to a clearing on the left-hand side. There is parking available in this clearing as well as along the side of the forest service road in areas with wide shoulders.

For those preferring to ride up, you can e-bike or pedal to the top via the forest service road (note: the gravel road has some significant potholes, so a vehicle with good clearance is recommended for driving). Alternatively, book the new shuttle service for convenient access to the trailhead (Contact Rob at 604-516-9115 (Call/WhatsApp) for 7-days-a-week service starting from $20.)
